Ballyhoura Rural Services (BRS) is a registered charity established in 2010 to address the issues of physical, social, and emotional isolation. We operate in the East Limerick and North Cork Region.

Our Vision
BEFRIENDING: We believe in a connected, caring community where everyone feels valued and supported. As befrienders, we offer high-quality, client-centred services that empower individuals and are truly shaped by the people we serve.
SOCIAL FARM: To be a sanctuary for wellness, offering the calming and restorative benefits of nature in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Our Mission
BEFRIENDING: We are committed to identifying and supporting individuals in rural communities—particularly older adults—who are experiencing physical, emotional, or social isolation.
SOCIAL FARM: Providing farm-based programmes and activities for communities to foster wellness and connection in the healing embrace of nature.
What We Do
We aim to reduce rural isolation by providing tailored supports and services, with a focus on older people.
Through skilled staff, community partnerships, and a commitment to best practice, we help individuals reconnect—with themselves, their neighbours, and their community.
Whether it’s a friendly chat, a helping hand, or a walk on the farm, every service we offer is a step toward better wellbeing and greater social connection. We do this through the various services we offer:
BEFRIENDING
BRS Befriending delivers its befriending service through two Community Employment Schemes and a Volunteer Programme.
- One-to-one Befriending
- Life Story Recording
BRS SOCIAL FARM
Doon Social Farm is a 33-acre organic space dedicated to reducing social isolation, especially among young people. Through hands-on activities and community-based learning, it offers a welcoming environment for personal growth, connection, and wellbeing.
